Riders band together to find a cure for Type – 1 Diabetes

There are many diseases that know no bounds, ages or types. The same thing can be said of those who crave the open road on two wheels. Cycle riders come in all shapes, sizes and from various backgrounds, and now, they are coming together for a good reason.

“We want to do two things. One, help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, and two, have a great rally!” said Chuck Price.

Price and his fellow riders will be on scooters, mopeds and motorcycles on a charity ride to raise money and awareness and to enjoy a summer’s ride. The route begins at the Menands Farmers Market, then winds through historic city streets around the Capital District

Plans are to gather at the market beginning at 9:30 AM, then kickstands up promptly at 11:00 AM for an impressive bike procession through the market, then on South to Albany. The route passes the State Capital, runs through Albany Rural Cemetery and passes many other sites around the region.

Registration proceeds will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Those who register early, get a reduced registration fee and have the opportunity to add a commemorative shirt to their order.

“There are various levels of sponsorship available as well. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible so we are hoping for lots of support,” said Price.

This is the fifth annual ride, and more are scheduled in the future. Price and his family have personal ties to this all important cause.

“My son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age eight. This disease requires constant monitoring, and regular visits to a pediatric endocrinologist. The more we learn, the better the chance to fight and cure this disease,” said Price.

Last year’s rally made over $5,000.00 for the research foundation. Price wants to best that and then some this year.

“Come out; support a great cause for some great kids. It is also a way to meet and greet fellow riders,” said Price. Two Scooter clubs and a Moped Club were formed as a direct result of the first Rally. All will be on hand for ATR 5.
